How to look fly on a Rainy Day

It’s Raining, It’s Pouring... what in the world should I wear?
Ok, so hurricane season is here and we all know what that means... rain, rain, and more rain right here in our very own sunshine state. I don’t know about you but whenever it’s raining I feel like I have nothing to wear or I feel way too blah to even try. When looking for something to wear on a rainy day staying dry is usually goal numero uno and not slipping and eating it is next in line. Both of these goals already eliminate half of our SoFlo wardrobe and hair choices with just the first couple of raindrops and that is truly frustrating. So what do you do if you want to be practical and stylish at the same time? Well, every dark cloud has a silver lining. Here are some simple, clever, and creative ways to rock it on a rainy day.

The key is to do the exact opposite of how the rain makes you feel. If you feel lazy or blah, have fun with your outfit and let how great you look brighten up your day. Let’s take it from the top... In my experience, Florida humidity and letting your hair down doesn’t always mix so a rainy day is the perfect time to try some of those fun up-dos you never got around to doing. Or if you’re not feelin’ the up-do try a hat! A hat can instantly dress up a simple outfit. A scarf is not only reserved for cold weather anymore it’s another accessory that instantly makes a simple outfit more noticeable.

A medium length rain coat, cardigan, or sweater are perfect for rainy days. Dark leggings are my personal go to on a rainy day because I can wear them under skirts dresses and shorts and they look super cute with boots. Speaking of boots... cowgirl, combat, classic rain boots are all great for keeping your feet dry and your look fun, fresh, and upbeat. Last but not least, wedges are heels that are easier to maneuver around those slippery puddles and transform any outfit from casual to chic just like that (imagine me snapping my fingers). The rain can suck sometimes but now, since you have been properly equipped, the next time it rains you’ll be ready to take on the day!

1st Birthday Parties + Crochet Shorts

This past Saturday was my little cousin Melanie's first birthday. The first of anything is always special and she's a girl so OBVIOUSLY she going to be a little spoiled. Her birthday theme was Minnie Mouse... I know too cute right?! She even had a Minnie jean jacket vest and the signature ears! She's definitely the next fashion diva of the family, look out world! I was the photographer for the day and let me tell you shooting little kids in action is hard work!

Hey! My Aldo spiked bracelet isn't food! ;)

Since it was an outdoor party I opted for crotchet shorts and a sheer blouse. Even with shorts I was still dying of a heat stroke.... typical day in Miami. Because I knew I was going to be on my feet most of the time I wore some cute flat sandals instead of heels. I would have DIED.

Thanks to my cousin Guerdine for snapping my outfit photos for me! ;)

3 Summer Style Tricks To Learn From Solange Knowles

So being that I am a "Miami Fashion Blogger" I think it makes me more than qualified to speak on summer style. I mean its pretty much summer all year here! But I thought I would rip a page out of trendsetter Solange Knowles' genius fashion sense and combine together her trends with some tips for summer 2013! Obviously, these didn't come straight for Solange although I'd like to think she'd agree with me on these 3 fashion tricks to make you just as fashionable this summer.

1. Yellow is a perfect summer color especially for those outdoor summer concerts!

2. Why would you ONLY wear those summer whites during the day? Test them out at night with some red lips and strappy heels!
